“Marriott is set to build the largest hotel in Haiti, marking the first international property to open on the island. Scheduled to open in mid-2014, the 173-room Port-au-Prince Marriott Hotel will be the biggest on the island and the first hotel to open in Haiti since the devastating earthquake.
Located in the Haute Turgeau area of the city, the hotel will feature several bars and restaurants, with staff trained by some of the 1,100 Haitian employees currently working at Marriott’s South Florida hotels.
Haiti, which lost over half of its hotel rooms during the earthquake, currently offers around 500 rooms for visitors. In addition to the Marriott project, construction on the Hotel des Artistes, a new property near Toussaint Louverture International Airport, is expected to begin later this year after significant delays, with its opening also slated for 2014.”
