“Travel Tuesday showcases top travel experts, celebrities, and influencers who share their insights on exploring the world. Created by Christopher Parr, an award-winning travel journalist and the Editor-in-Chief of Pursuitist, this weekly column offers travel tips and recommendations for luxury hotels, spas, and restaurants.
Matt Long, the globetrotting travel influencer behind LandLopers, is known for his extensive travels and engaging content. Based in Washington, DC, Matt has visited over 95 countries and all 7 continents. He started LandLopers as a creative outlet while working in a job he didn’t enjoy, and now it’s his full-time gig.
Matt’s favorite airport is DCA (Reagan National) in Washington for its convenience and retro feel. His top airline is Cathay Pacific for its exceptional service. When it comes to luxury hotels, he favors The Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons, and boutique options like Preferred Hotels and Small Luxury Hotels of the World.
Matt swears by ZipLoc bags for organizing his trips and a travel power strip for charging multiple devices. Upon entering a hotel room, he first looks for a Diet Coke and checks the bathroom and views. If he could fly anywhere tomorrow, he’d choose Australia or the South Pacific. On his travel bucket list are the Arctic, Tasmania, Vietnam, and Portugal.
His favorite cocktail is a pina colada on the beach, and he recommends The Strand in Yangon, Morpheus in Macao, and The Ritz-Carlton in Hong Kong for city-centric luxury stays. For secluded resorts, he loves Le Meridien Bora Bora, Four Seasons Serengeti, and Fogo Island Inn in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Matt’s top hotel spas are Four Seasons Lanai, Finn Lough Resort in Northern Ireland, and La Posada de Santa Fe in New Mexico. He sees traveling as his true passion and manages jet lag by staying hydrated, soaking up natural sunlight, and quickly adjusting to the new time zone.
Looking ahead, Matt plans to visit Nevis this week to explore the Four Seasons Nevis. Join us every Travel Tuesday for more luxury travel insights and tips from the best in the business.”
