Hocking Hills Cabins was one of my first stops during the Great Ohio Road Trip. It is located in the quaint town of Logan. Hocking Hill Cabins is a great place for a romantic getaway. The cabins are nestled amongst the hills and offer secluded accommodation. Enjoy the wildlife, foliage and wildflowers as you walk through the many trails on this property. Relax in the hot tub or on the porch swing and enjoy the spectacular sunset. This is the perfect place to enjoy a romantic weekend!
My visit to the Hocking Hills Cabins
My husband was unable to join me so I invited my long-time friend. Our cabin was the ideal place to reconnect. We hadn’t spoken in 20 years, but she lives close by. We talked late into the night. (Can you imagine trying to cram 20 years of friendship into one night? We enjoyed the cabin’s surroundings and all it had to offer.
The sky opened up and the rain began to pour down almost immediately! This is quite common in Ohio and usually doesn’t last very long. We were able to unpack, and have a lot of conversations …). We brought burgers and veggies, as well as all the fixings for S’mores. We grilled on the charcoal grill when the rain stopped.
After dinner, “we made fire!” Yep! No men, just two chicks. We made our own fire using charcoal grill briquettes, crumpled papers and a little paper. We were very proud of ourselves. We should be proud of ourselves!
We cooked marshmallows, and made S’mores …. We ate only two, and even practiced some restraint!
You’d probably love to know what two teenage girls who haven’t spoken in 20 years had to say, but let me tell about the cabin instead! The cabin we stayed in was called “Anniversary”. It is a small A frame cabin. On the first floor is an open-concept space with a dining table, kitchen and a fireplace. (You can’t use it during the summer). The bathroom is tucked away in a corner and looks like it was just installed! The circular staircase takes you up to the sleeping loft with a queen-size bed and sloped roof. The cabin was clean and well-appointed. The vaulted ceiling gave it a feeling of spaciousness and comfort all at once. It was very charming.
The interior was so clean that it surprised me! When I think “rustic”, I usually picture something draughty, rough, and unmodern. This cabin was the exact opposite. The cabin was clean, comfortable, and charming. We also enjoyed the large spiders that didn’t want to share our room.
We enjoyed our stay immensely. Hocking Hills Cabins is close to Route 33, and the outdoor activities in the Hocking Hills area. It’s a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I’d love to come back here with my husband someday — maybe for our 25th wedding anniversary next year!
Although I would love to bring my family, I am not sure I would. Hocking Hills Cabins has larger cabins for families, but it is more geared towards romantic getaways or adult trips. This includes indulgences, such as a dinner prepared by a personal chef, and treatments. Adventure Packages may be an excellent way to save money for families traveling.
Hocking Hills Cabins: Know before you go
No GPS! The Hocking Hills have a limited cell phone coverage. You might end up getting lost if you don’t print out directions. I have a story about that, but will save it for another time. Barb sent me directions a few days before I left. The service was excellent!
Bring your own beach towel. Bring your own beach towels. Or drip dry. You decide!
Bring NO firewood! The State of Ohio, due to concerns about agriculture, has banned the transportation of firewood between locations. Hocking Hills Cabins offers firewood at a minimal fee. The trunk gets a bit messy when you’re lugging around firewood.
Bring everything you need (except dishes and towels) for the kitchen and bathroom. Hocking Hills Cabins, unlike many hotels, does not stock their kitchens with sugar, creamer and coffee. The unit has a coffeemaker, but you will need to bring your own supplies. Unfortunately, we forgot to bring our coffee. Hand soap, towels and toilet paper are available, but you will need to bring your shampoo and lotions.
Families with small children. The unit we rented was not childproofed. I’m not sure how easy it is to childproof a rustic log cabin on a mountainside. If this is something that concerns you, make sure to look at pictures before you go.
