The King and Prince Resort is located on St. Simon’s Island in Georgia. Sounds swanky, doesn’t it?
I thought so too!
About five years ago, I heard about the King and Prince Resort and I knew I had to go there someday. I was thinking of a romantic weekend with my husband where we could enjoy the finer things in life.
When I was invited to stay with a group travel writers to learn more about the resort and St. Simon’s Island. I was thrilled. Sorry, hubby. Next trip!
The trip is over.
In my head, I imagined my fancy outfits for the glitz and glamour that would be expected in a resort named the “King and Prince.”
Then, just a few weeks before our trip, we got our itinerary, which included the instruction to “leave your tiaras behind.” Oh, my…
I was faced with a difficult dilemma.
Do I need to pack nice dresses and the casual dressy (cruise wear ) for the trip? No tiaras? No tiaras?
Should I bring the comfortable shorts and tee-shirts that I normally wear?
It was only reasonable that I pack both (I drove, so it helped). Yes, it’s true! Even packed lots of shoes for a particular travel blogger friend… you know who you are.
In the end, I should have kept a lot of my fancy shoes at home. Also, the fancy clothing.
The King and Prince, a luxury oceanfront resort, offers spacious rooms with top-notch service. But the royal decree at St. Simon’s Island has of fun.
Lots of it!
Discover The King And Prince Resort
Fun is in the resort’s DNA. It was founded as a dance club on the seafront in the 1930s.
The goal is to relax and enjoy yourself. Valets are always on hand to provide umbrellas if you forget your own (who is me ???)?). The King and Prince offers a relaxing atmosphere, from the valets who have umbrellas when you forget to pack yours (who is me?).
You could have left the majority of your clothes and shoes at home!
The resort amenities are everything you’d want from an oceanfront hotel (the only one in St. Simon’s Island).
- Enjoy dining indoors and outdoors at Echo, a resort restaurant.
- The beachfront is long and has a good surf (but be aware of the tide).
- Kayaking, paddle boarding, and surfing.
- Five resort pools including one for children (with an adjacent sand-play area).
- Lounge chairs at the beach and pool.
- Bike rentals,
- Tennis courts,
- Gym
- Spa (for massages)
- You can play golf. Yes, of course!
The resort will even offer quarterly weekend yoga retreats this year in partnership with Sault108. It was an amazing experience to take part in a yoga class while we were on vacation. This was my first time doing yoga on the beach. I’ve only been exercising regularly for about nine months, so I can say that those waves are a great accompaniment!
People who prefer to relax more during their beach vacations can do so! I worked on my balcony which looked out over the Atlantic Ocean and pool. The hotel lobby and old-fashioned porch swings are also great places to daydream.
The lobby at the King and Prince Resort is a comfortable and relaxing place to relax with family and friends, play cards, or read a good book. The lobby is near the bar and invites guests to stay for a while, as Southerners do.
Royal Decree is Fun!
As this was my “work trip”, I conducted a bit of “research” by talking to other guests whenever I could.
Finn is a man who has been coming to the King and Prince Resort for more than 30 years. The King and Prince Resort has welcomed Finn and his family for over 30 years. The same villa is rented by his family every year so they can enjoy the amenities of the resort and St. Simon’s.
The King and Prince is a favorite of his family because it’s oceanfront location, amenities and services. The car is parked for the entire week by his family. When they leave, they walk to the nearby shops and restaurants.
Also, he says to leave your dress clothes at home. It’s a shame I didn’t know him prior to my trip.
All you need is shorts, swimsuits and flip-flops. Finn is also serious. He didn’t pack long pants at all for his vacation!
The number one thing he would say is to enjoy the island. Everyone on the island is friendly and welcoming, including the staff at the resort. Finn says to relax and soak it all in.
Finn was so excited by St. Simon’s Island, and the resort there that I wanted me to stay longer to enjoy it even more. But I had to leave.
The King and Prince for Families
As a travel blogger for families who are focused on budget, but not necessarily cheap, I always consider the value of a dollar when deciding whether or not to recommend a particular resort to my readers.
I would recommend the King and Prince Resort to anyone looking for a great family vacation. There are many things to do in the island, besides the wonderful staff and all the amenities available at the resort.
- Massengale Park, located just two blocks from the hotel, has a great playground for children.
- Fort Frederica was a national park and historic monument that helped shape Georgia’s past. The British defeated the Spanish there in 1742, sealing Georgia’s fate as an English Colony.
- The St. The St. Families are also rewarded by a breeze and expansive views at the top of 129 steps.
- Lighthouse Trolleys Land & Sea Tours offers historic tours of St. Simon’s Island, Jekyll Island nearby and a variety boat tours. We took a trolley (air-conditioned!) tour. Both tours were enjoyable, even though the dolphins chose not to come. We were entertained by storytellers who told us stories from the past.
- Search for the tree spirits of St. Simons Island. If I want to explore the town with my kids, I am always excited to find things to keep them entertained. The Tree Spirits are carved in the trunks and branches of majestic oaks all over town. Visit the Island visitor’s centre for more information. See if you can locate them all.
- The resort offers a variety of water and biking sports.
The resort view rooms are the most affordable option for guests on a budget, and they offer all the same amenities. Villas with up to 12 beds are ideal for large family gatherings. They also come with daily housekeeping.
Next time, I will bring my family! We will not pack tiaras. Flip flops will be packed instead. We will have fun, just like my new buddy, Finn! There’s a lot of it!
