I enjoy staying at bed and breakfasts. A bed and breakfast can be like Forrest Gump’s box of choclates. You don’t know what to expect, even if they look great on the surface. I was pleasantly surprised by the Rosemont Inn Bed & Breakfast. I received everything I hoped for and more.
Enjoy the Relaxed Elegance of The Rosemont Inn B&B
The Rosemont Inn B&B, built in 1859, has welcomed guests to Montrose, Pennsylvania, for more than 160 year. The current owners decided to connect a carriage house and a main home, creating a library. The space is filled with large windows, and there are hundreds of books to be enjoyed by guests. The public areas have several seating areas, such as the front porch with its swing, the patio with a swing, and the living room.
The rooms at Rosemont Inn B and B
The Rosemont Inn B&B offers eleven suites. Each suite is different, featuring a unique decor and private bathroom. The Charles & Mary Antoinette suite is the newest and opened in 2019. It’s an ADA-compliant suite, located across from the dining area. The room is elegantly finished and has plenty of space. This room features a seating area with a view of the Village Green across the street.
It’s my room, Clock Tower. I think it is the perfect room. Relaxation is encouraged by the soothing color palette. The clawfoot bathtub, hardwood floors and hand-hewed beams add historic charm. Two windows on each side add light and airiness. Just outside, the sitting room offers more space, which I didn’t need, and a wall of books for late-night reading (I did that! ).
Penny, my innkeeper, was the first to open the door of my suite. I immediately felt the stress of traveling melt away. I only stayed for one night. I could have easily stayed for a week.
The Innkeepers
I have no doubt that Peter and Penny are the innkeepers who make this place special. They live on site and treat the inn and its guests as if they were welcoming family. The attention they pay to details is amazing. Rosemont Inn B&B maintains a meticulously clean environment, but it is not stuffy. Peter and Penny have mastered the art of creating a relaxed atmosphere, which is evident in all the details, from the comfortable, clean rooms to the thoughtful touches on the property to the delicious breakfast served with unlimited coffee! Though I had heard about Penny’s famous homemade doughnuts I didn’t get to taste them. Perhaps, another visit was needed.
Penny revealed that her and her husband took over the inn just a little more than a year before. They immediately put their mark on the house, replacing the heavy velvet curtains with lighter, airier ones in the living area. They updated the bedding, sheets and towels in the suites to create a more comfortable, lighter feel. The nooks and crannys were transformed into useful space. Whether it was a cozy reading corner or a hospitality area with a fridge, coffee and snacks for guests, they made them usable. They’re still working on it with more improvements planned!
Penny and Peter make this place unique, even though the decor upgrades are great. They are amazing. From the excellent communication before check-in to the warm welcome at check-in and meeting needs, as well as a delicious breakfast served with hospitality. When I met Penny I felt as if I had made a new friend, not just my host.
Food
A great bed and Breakfast stay will include a delicious breakfast. Although Penny did not serve my favorite Belgian Waffles or her famous doughnuts, our breakfast was delicious! Fresh fruit, her special eggs, waffles and bacon were served along with endless coffee. The meal was served in a family-style at 8:00 am, but each guest could schedule their preferred time.
Penny will stock the breakfast area with coffee, fruit, yogurt, and breakfast bars for guests who arrive early.
You can order a picnic for your arrival night or any other evening during your stay. The Inn works with a local caterer to offer this meal, complete with a picnic basket, bottled wine, and other goodies, to be enjoyed in your room, dining room or front porch. The dinner included in my stay was far beyond what I expected! The setting was perfect, sitting on the porch and watching the rain fall. I ate my meal, but I didn’t get to finish it. Buttermilk fried hen, carrot medallions, rosemary-roasted potatoes and a dessert of lemon and fresh raspberry parfait — all delicious.
After a long day of traveling, I’m sure you agree that checking in at the hotel, then running to a nearby restaurant for dinner, is not relaxing. It was great to be able to settle in and enjoy the comfortable surroundings of the inn.
The Rosemont Inn Offers Many Amenities
The Rosemont Inn is no exception. If I were to describe the Rosemont Inn in one word, it would be welcoming. I felt welcomed into my own home and not just like a guest. There were so many quiet places for me to relax and places where I could mingle with the other guests. Penny and Peter enjoy visiting with guests. They don’t interfere. The guest is in charge.
There are two places to watch TV, but I found myself wanting to unplug! The TV is available in two different places, but I was tempted to unplug. There are several comfortable conversation areas in the living room, which is used often for special events. The piano is available for guests to use. There’s also a fireplace that will warm up the room in winter. Breakfast is served in several different areas, so that even if the eleven rooms are all full, it still feels like an intimate setting.
The property has free WiFi but I was unable to log in during my stay. It’s possible I did something wrong, but I didn’t seek help. The inn also offers local soaps for the bathroom, and displays of local art. Some are available for purchase. The grounds have patios, grills, swings, and seating areas for you to relax at the end the day.
Location is also a great asset. Location, location, and location are everything, as they say. The Rosemont Inn, located just two blocks away from Montrose’s charming downtown area, is directly across the street from Montrose’s village green. Enjoy small town living by walking to restaurants, movies, or shops.
Book your Stay at the Rosemont Inn B&B
The Rosemont Inn Bed & Breakfast is a short drive from any major city, including New York, Philadelphia or Rochester. It would be a wonderful weekend getaway. It’s worth the detour if you’re driving through the area.
A couple from Manhattan, who was headed to Michigan for an upcoming wedding, had stayed the night before me. The couple had originally planned to leave early in the morning and skip breakfast but they changed their mind. Both said that they were glad they changed their minds, even though it meant they arrived in Michigan later.
