Since I was a child, I have wanted to take my kids to Great Wolf Lodge . An indoor water park? Awesome. No need for sunscreen! It was impossible to do, however, because of the seven-year age difference between them. Ellie was just too small. Ben seemed too big. We decided to test it out this past week when we traveled through Concord, NC. Ben was hesitant… “Mom,” said he, “I may be too old for it.” But his love of adventure won, and we all jumped in.
Ben’s Review Of Great Wolf Lodge:
We stayed in the KidKamp suite. Sorry, no photo! The website accurately portrays the space, but Ben was very impressed by the overall size and quality of the room. Ben’s highlights included comfortable furniture, great sport channels on the television and plenty of space in the refrigerator for snacks.
The twin bed is big enough for him (he is 5’7″ tall).
The mattress is too hard for children and the decor is not suitable.
He liked the super-softness of the blanket.
The blanket is too small for a teenager.
He used it to cover the sleeping sofa.
Ben’s review on the Great Wolf Lodge Water Park
It’s very loud in there, but after a few minutes you get used it. The resort was 90% full on Saturday. Sunday was quieter and less crowded. It was more enjoyable for us all.
The water in the park is not evaporating well. The chlorine seems to hang in the air in particular in the water tubes. Ben was the one who coughed most.
These are pretty cool, though I wish there were more. These slides are big and fast enough to be enjoyed by teens. “It would be fun to hang out here all day with my friends.” (Even though I’m a mom, I don’t take offense at this comment! I get that moms are not as cool as friends. )
No surprise that his favorite slide is the Howlin’ Tornado.: “Our most exciting adventure… drop into a 6-story funnel to swish, swirl, and climb 30 feet up its sides before landing safely.”
Ben says:
- The best way to play is with four people.
- You will go up the wall if you are one of those who sideways.
Ben’s second favorite slide is Alberta Falls. It is four stories high and has a height of. “Twist into the lodge before dropping in the plunge pool,” Ben says.
- We have tested this theory and found that blue slides are faster than yellow slides (we always win when we test his theory). )
- You can go higher and faster by laying your head back.
Ben’s favorite attraction at the resort is Fort Mackenzie. It’s a 4-story treehouse with “suspension nets, swinging cargonets, treetop slide and soaking spray station” as well as a 1,000-gallon bucket which tips every few moments, drenching those below. Ben ran around the fort, spraying water at people and his dad with the hoses. It wasn’t just him!
Great Wolf Lodge Concord, NC is one of ten Lodges in the U.S.A. and Ontario. They provided a discount for this review. This post is my and my son’s, except for the quotes about attractions. The Great Wolf Lodge is a great place for teens, except those with allergies or asthma.
